14.4. Starter

Starter (And – Bosch, B – Parish-Rhone, C – Mitsubishi)

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To disconnect a negative wire from the accumulator.
2. To disconnect electric connections from the electromagnetic switch (shooters specified bolts of fastening of wires to the electromagnetic switch).
3. To remove the back plate of the holder connecting a starter to the block of cylinders of the engine.
4. To unscrew bolts of fastening of a head of a starter to a coupling case.
5. To take a starter.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To establish a starter on the appropriate place.
2. To screw up bolts (1) of fastening of a starter to a coupling case (2 – bolts of fastening of a suspension bracket).
3. To insert a back plate of the holder and to screw up bolts of support of a starter not against the stop.
4. To screw up fastening bolts on the block of cylinders of the engine, and then on a starter.
5. To connect electric connections to the electromagnetic switch.
6. To connect the accumulator.

Repair of a starter

Actions for dismantling and assembly of a starter are not difficult.
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. During mechanical repair of a starter it is necessary to perform the following operations.
2. To estimate a condition of brushes, degree of their wear, to check whether correctly they move in the corresponding guides.
3. To estimate pressing and the provision of springs of brushes.
4. To estimate a condition of a collector which should be cleaned only a piece of the material moistened in gasoline or trikhloroetileny and to polish with a thin emery paper; never it is necessary to use an emery cloth.
5. To estimate a condition of plugs of the self-greased bearings; in case of their replacement it is necessary to take new plugs before installation in engine oil (SAE 30/40) not less than 20 minutes.
6. To estimate a condition of a rotor and windings of excitement; windings should not have gaps and traces of burn-out.
