3.3.13. Determination of the size of inserts

Location of a mark in the block of cylinders and cranked to a shaft

Tags on the block of cylinders are on the left side of the block, and tags of a bent shaft is at an end face of a crossing point of a bent shaft.

Chart of the choice of inserts

On early engines the top and lower inserts had identical thickness and only two sizes of inserts were available: the standard size for use with a standard bent shaft and a set of inserts of the increased size for installation on a repolished bent shaft.

However since February, 1992 the working gap of the bearing was considerably reduced and in order that this condition was satisfied, apply three various inserts which are designated by a color tag at an end face. Color of a tag designates insert thickness. The top insert on all bearings has the identical size, and the working gap is regulated by installation of the lower insert of the required thickness.

On the latest engines new inserts can be chosen, using signs on the block of cylinders. In the absence of tags inserts can be picked up only by measurement of a working gap.

Tags are used for the choice of an insert of the required thickness.

On cranked to a shaft and a back part of the block of cylinders there are two lines of identification: shaped a code which is used by Peugeot by production, and a row from five designations. The first designation in the sequence belongs to the size number 1 of an insert. The last designation in the sequence (which is followed by an arrow) belongs to the size number 5 of an insert.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Define number of designation from a certain neck of a bent shaft and an opening of the bearing of the block of cylinders.
2. On the top axis of the nomogram note designation of the block of cylinders and through this point draw a vertical line.
3. On the left vertical axis of the nomogram note designation of a bent shaft and through this point draw a horizontal line.
4. The point of intersection of lines specifies the insert size for providing the required gap. For example, the nomogram shows that the block of cylinders indicates G, and the bent shaft indicates T, then the point of intersection within red area defines that blue (class A) – the most suitable for receiving the required gap (see rice. Chart of the choice of inserts).
