3.1.2.5.4. Check of a working gap in bearings of a bent shaft
Bystry (and more exact) a method consists in using the product known as "Plastigauge". It consists of a round plastic core which contracts between an insert and a neck of a bent shaft. After removal of a cover and the lower insert the deformed plastic core is measured by a special template which is available in a set of "Plastigauge".
PERFORMANCE ORDER |
1. On the inserts installed in the block of cylinders of the engine establish a bent shaft without lubricant. Necks of a bent shaft and inserts have to be absolutely pure and dry. |
|
2. To cut off several pieces of a plastic core of "Plastigauge" (they have to be slightly shorter, than width of the main bearings) and to establish them on each neck of a bent shaft. |
3. To establish covers with the lower inserts and to tighten fastening bolts the required moment. In the course of carrying out measurement of gaps by Plastigauge method not to rotate a bent shaft. |
|
4. To unscrew a cover of fastening of an insert, to remove it and to put the large-scale ruler printed on packing to the deformed plastic core. Comparing width of the deformed plastic core to control width on a large-scale ruler, to determine gap size. |
5. In conclusion carefully to clear all traces of Plastigauge-material from inserts and a bent shaft. |
