10.3. Steering column

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. In the presence, to remove a safety cushion.
3. To remove a steering wheel.
4. To remove casings of a steering column.
5. To remove the ignition lock.
6. On models since 1992 to release fastening brackets and to lower a box with fuses down from the panel.
7. In the forward lower part of interior of the car to turn off a floor carpet for access to a bolt of fastening of a steering column.
8. Under a steering column to disconnect three sockets (are specified by shooters for models since 1993) from the ignition lock. In the same way, in the presence, to disconnect the socket of wires from a safety cushion.
9. In the forward lower part of interior of the car to put combination tags on intermediate to a shaft and a shaft of a steering column.
10. To unscrew tightening a bolt, the fixing shaft of a steering column to an intermediate shaft.
11. To unscrew two lower bolts of fastening of a steering column (are specified by shooters for models since 1993).
12. To unscrew the top nuts of fastening of a steering column (are specified by shooters for models till 1992), then to take a steering column from the car.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
To check a condition of a steering column for damages and wear. To check a side play of a steering shaft in plugs of a steering column and a condition of universal hinges.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Installation is made in the sequence of the return to removal.
2. On models with a safety cushion to establish a steering column into place, then to check that the gap between a back part of a steering wheel and casings of a column makes 8,0 mm. If the gap differs from demanded, to perform the following operations:
      – to weaken a coupling bolt of fastening of a shaft of a steering column to an intermediate shaft and to move a steering shaft as required to receive the required gap between a steering wheel and casings;
      – to squeeze a coupling bolt and to establish finishing.
